Twenty thousand people on the Città Alta route sealed the success of the twenty-first edition of the Bergamo Historic Gran Prix: after having crowded Colle Aperto admiring the vintage cars and motorcycles on display, the public then saw the racing cars in action on the three kilometers of the “Circuito delle Mura”, the same one that in 1935 greeted the victory of the legendary Tazio Nuvolari at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo P3.
A show opened with an “old style” Le Mans-style start, with the drivers lined up on the left side of the starting straight who sprinted towards the cars lined up on the opposite side of the road to take off. 80 cars were racing, divided between Pre-war/single-seaters and GT/GTS, and 60 GP and Sport motorcycles, which gave life to six heats, four for cars and two for motorcycles. This year too, several anniversaries were celebrated: for the 60th anniversary of an authentic Alfa Romeo icon, the Giulia Sprint GTA 1600, Alfa Delta brought a model with an interesting sporting past. For the 65th anniversary of the Ferrari GTE, the first 2+2 from Maranello, a car that belonged to Lodovico Scarfiotti was admired, as well as the particular Formula Junior Apache MK2, with an offset left-hand driving position, built in California in 1960. The two-wheel line-up saw all the best brands of the time represented, such as MV Agusta, Laverda, Gilera, Guzzi, Rumi, Benelli, Norton, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha. Two riders also greeted the many fans, Andrea Locatelli, current protagonist of the Superbike World Championship, and Ezio Gianola, at the center of many battles in the 125 class of the MotoGP in the 1990s. The event raised funds for the non-profit organization Spazio Autismo Bergamo.
