The 100 years of the Alfa Romeo 6C (1925-2025). 6C is synonymous with sportiness, elegance and nobility
A century separates us from when the Alfa 6C RN (Nicola Romeo) was exhibited at the 1925 Milan Motor Show.
Created by the genius of a designer who had mechanics in his blood: Vittorio Jano, a technician of Hungarian origin, but born near Turin, it was set up according to an innovative project: 6-cylinder in-line twin-shaft engine, and extremely low weight of the vehicle.
A fast and easy to drive car.
Qualities that made the 6C a forerunner of future "granturismos", the dream not only of professional drivers, but also of gentlemen drivers and even sporty ladies.
It was the winning model of the Vittorio Jano al Portello era, and its fame spread throughout the motorsport world.
The evolution of the Alfa 6C led to the creation of increasingly sophisticated models, in sedan, spider and torpedo versions.
The chassis - complete with mechanical parts - was entrusted by the new owners to the most prestigious body shops of the time: Zagato, Castagna, Touring, Brianza..., which created masterpieces of elegance and practicality.
WINNING IN RACES
The Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 and 1750 distinguished themselves in the most arduous competitions.
The 6C 1500 took part in the Colle della Maddalena race (CN, 1996 m.) in 1928, a very tough uphill test due to the difficulties of the route. Nonetheless, the car surpassed more powerful cars.
It took part in the Mille Miglia and was driven by drivers of the caliber of Nuvolari, Campari, Varzi, Ramponi and other famous names.
Particularly fast and light, it was the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 - again designed by Vittorio Jano - which became an icon of the Thirties, and a status symbol for those who could afford it.
ALFA ROMEO 6C, THE CARS OF CELEBRITIES AND BILLIONAIRES
Of great international importance, in the 1950s version - 6C 2500 - it was appreciated by the millionaires and celebrities of the time: King Farouk of Egypt, Tyrone Power, the splendid Rita Hayworth, Rainier III of Monaco, the Argentine president Juan Peron, .... and our famous Neapolitan comedian Prince De Curtis, aka Totò.
An endless success, which is repeated in exhibitions, in the Contests of Elegance, and in the most important auctions.
