King George, the Queen's father, was gifted with the 100th production Land Rover all the way back in 1948. From 1952 it is still one of the favorite car brand of the royal family, especially of the Queen Elisabeth. Jaguar Land Rover is the only automotive company to hold three Royal Warrant: one of the Queen, one of Duck of Edinburgh and one of Prince of Wales.

HISTORICAL NOTES
The first version of Land Rover, the Series I, was first launched in 1948. It was in production for 10 years until it got replaced by the next model, the Series II. In 1990 Land Rover became Land Rover Defender.
The Defender was developed into many versions. Some of the most remarkable versions were SVX, a new series of special edition Defenders that was produced specially for the celebration of Land Rover's 60th anniversary and three limited-edition versions with which Land Rover Defender bade farewell after 68 years of continuous production.

THE THREE FINAL EDITION VERSIONS
The Adventure Edition is the version, fitted with off-road tyres; the Defender Heritage Edition has HUE 166's shape and comes in Grasmere Green paint with a contrasting Alaska White roof; the third and last version, built to famous designer Paul Smith's own specification, features 27 different colours that were used by British Armed Forces.
The last model of Defender, rolled off production line in Solihull 29 January 2016. Today these cars are instant classic and they raise interest among many collectors. Almost two years after going out of production, it is still possible to get some interesting models on the market. For those who don't want to give up a possibility to drive these spectacular cars on Christmas, there are plenty of opportunities offered by sale at OldCar24, http://www.oldcar24.com/offers/.

THE DIRECT RIVAL, made in Germany
The main competitor of Land Rover Defender, Mercedes G-Class was built way back in 1979. During all 38 years of its existence no important changes have been made. It has been only restyled by the style centers of car manufacturer of Stuttgart but nobody has ever managed to bring to the market a completely new model.
New version 464 is expected to make its appearance next year. We will see then if it will be completely renewed or just, one more time, restyled.
