Jaguar XJ220, the world's fastest road car
Among the first customers Elton John and the Sultan of Brunei.
The history of the XJ220 begins quietly, with a fleeting appearance as a prototype at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988.
After a few years the car went into production, exactly in 1992 in a special factory in Bloxham near Banbury, and the first cars were delivered in July. Among the first customers Elton John and the Sultan of Brunei.
Production, which lasted until 1994, was only 275 examples, unlike the approximately 350 initially planned, although it should be noted that some sources report a total production of only 281 cars.
What makes this car from the English car manufacturer unique are its futuristic lines and performance, 0-100 km/h in 3.75 seconds and a maximum speed of over 349 km/h; these performances have given it the record of being the fastest road car in the world.
The XJ220 also had a short racing period; it ran in the GT category of the 1993 24 Hours of Le Mans. David Coulthard, David Brabham and John Nielsen took turns driving it, all of whom managed to win the category.
Considered an icon in the world of sports cars, the XJ220 is a truly collectible supercar.
