Celebration of the Centenary of the Autostrada Milano Varese
A wonderful procession of about 100 historic vehicles
On September 22, 2024, a procession of about 100 historic vehicles, vintage cars and motorcycles, triumphantly traveled along the Autostrada dei Laghi to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of its inauguration, which took place on September 21, 1924.
The authorities were present at the time, Vittorio Emanuele III King of Italy and the engineer Piero Puricelli, creator of this great and innovative work.
The anniversary was organized by ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and Autostrade d'Italia; with the patronage of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Chamber of Deputies, the Municipalities of Milan, Varese and Linate.
This great collegial tribute to a structure dedicated to road traffic, underlines its historical importance, not only for the development of our country, but for all of Europe.
The public toll highway for fast traffic, easily passable by motor vehicles, connected cities and nations, facilitated the transportation of goods, boosting the economy, promoted cultural exchanges and brought populations closer together.
After that initial 42 km stretch between Milan and Varese, an immense linear network of highways enveloped the world.
Among the vintage cars that honored this celebration, we noted the Alfa Romeo Zagato 6C 1750 Gran Sport, the Citroen C6 1930, the Isotta Fraschini, the luxurious Rolls-Royce, the Mercedes Benz and the most beautiful cars built between 1924 and 1945.
The OldCar24 crews participated in the parade with pre-war English racing cars.
