CITROEN CX - 1974
The car that expresses the concept of dynamism.
Produced by the House of the "double chevron" 50 years ago, the Citroen CX refers to the "CX coefficient", a formula that is used to measure the aerodynamic resistance that a vehicle encounters through the air.
The value of this coefficient is very important for a sports car; the lower it is, the more the vehicle speed increases.
The CX model replaced the famous Citroen DS, a masterpiece by Flaminio Bertoni (1903-1964), after twenty years of in-depth studies on aerodynamic forces, tested in the Wind Tunnel.
Robert Opron (1923-2021) succeeded Bertoni at Citroen, following the sudden death of the Lombard stylist.
The study of the bodywork, which had to focus on aerodynamic qualities, was entrusted to the Opron staff.
The most suitable shapes were sought to allow the car better penetration into the air, so as to increase the car's performance.
The bodywork was modeled to offer the least air resistance, the streamlined profile line, the faired rear wheels and the very sloping windshield.
The front headlights were recessed and adjustable. Inside, the single-spoke steering wheel - already designed by Bertoni - and other futuristic solutions also made this amazing creation of the French car manufacturer famous.
