This year the event achieved a high number of attendances with various OldCar24 crews
The twentieth edition of the Bergamo Historic Gran Prix took place on Sunday, 26 May. It was a historical re-enactment of the 1935 race, in which Tazio Nuvolari achieved an astonishing victory over the Alfa Romeo P3 of Formula 1. The event also celebrated the Bergamo motorcycle Grand Prix editions, raced in the 40s and 50s.
As usual, this year, the event saw a diverse and vibrant turnout of the public and enthusiasts, who gathered on the circuit of the Venetian walls of upper Bergamo to watch the passing of cars and motorcycles. The presence of many foreign tourists added to the global appeal of the event, creating a sense of community among the attendees.
The morning was dedicated to the static display of the vehicles. In the afternoon, the heats took place on the natural circuit of the walls, approximately three kilometres long, very beautiful and technical, with breathtaking curves, climbs and descents.
The most important cars and special guests were awarded, including the former rally raid driver Ciro De Petri, multiple winner at the Paris-Dakar, at the Tunisia and Pharaohs Rally, the constructor Pietro Laverda, the famous trainer-driver Orlando Redolfi from Bergamo, the driver Michela Cerruti and Roberto Restelli, driver and owner of Alfa Delta who then drove, on the circuit, a magnificent Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Group 2, recently restored. The presence of the Deputy Mayor of Bergamo, Sergio Gandi, who is always collaborative and available, and of Councilor Alessandro De Bernardis was very welcome.
Once the awards ceremony and the usual pleasantries were over, the participants covered the excellent circuit in several sessions, to the delight of the public, who applauded and cheered the drivers on.
For the GTS cars, the old-style start, like Le Mans, was much appreciated, with the drivers lined up on the left side of the track who, when the checkered flag waved, ran to catch up with the cars lined up on the opposite side of the starting straight, and then left spectacularly, just as it happened at the time.
This year the event achieved a high number of attendances with various OldCar24 crews; more than one hundred and fifty vehicles, divided by categories or Pre-war-Single-seater, such as Maserati 4CM-CL year 1939, Fiat Coppa d'Oro year 1935, Maserati 26 B year 1928, Amilcar year 1926, Riley 9 Special, Alfa Romeo Ala Spessa year 1939, MG PB Sport and finally Formula Junior and Formula Fiat Abarth single-seaters. Among the GTSs there were the most famous brands, such as Alfa Romeo, Zagato, Spider 2000, Ferrari 250 GT, 308 GTB, Lamborghini Countach, Mercedes Benz 300 SL and many Porsche 911s in the most varied road and racing configurations and also Jaguar, Shelby Cobra and Austin Healey, to name a few. Many racing motorcycles:
Rumi, Guzzi, MV Agusta, Gilera, Laverda, noisy and captivating on the route.
Not to forget that the 2024 edition, as in the best tradition of the event, contributed to raising funds for the ONLUS Spazio Autismo Bergamo - all, as always, in a festive and passionate context.
