The bodywork was designed by the Lincoln-Mercury Design Studio, earning the prestigious "Excellence in Design" award proposed by Tiffany, and many other awards.
The car's worldwide fame followed the performance of the 1968 Ford Mustang QT 390 in the hit movie “Bullit”.

In this detective film an unforgettable Steve McQeen, actor-pilot, recklessly drives, in the role of Lieutenant Bullit, homicide squad, a formidable Ford, unleashed like a wild colt (mustang, wild horse of the Far West).
The chase sequence takes place on the slopes of San Francisco, directed by Peter Yates.
One of the two examples used in the film was sold at auction in 2020 for the considerable sum of $3.7 million!
