The Milano Portofino 2024, a highly successful star-studded event!
The wonderful historic cars from Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland were the real ‘stars’ of this ‘star-studded’ event.
A star-studded event for top-of-the-range cars that received, parked in the courtyard of Milan's Palazzo del Senato, the care of their owners as if they were thoroughbreds waiting for a big race. Here they were displaying aerodynamic shapes, long tails, streamlined profiles, or aggressive fronts.
We noticed the style of the 1930s, inspired by rationalism, the severe royalty of the Rolls-Royce, the sensual curves of the 1950s coachwork.
We admired the luxurious flagships, the restless convertibles and the timeless ‘Ladies of yesteryear’ in blue livery.
Basically, the cars that made automotive history.
In order to achieve a ‘star-studded’ event, the OldCar24 organisation focused exclusively on locations of the highest prestige, to offer its guests maximum comfort.
The Grand Hotel Principe di Savoia was amply up to the task in terms of elegance and attention, such as the dispatch of 10 shuttles to relieve the kind guests, who had travelled to the Quadrilatero della Moda, Milan's sanctuary of luxury, of the fatigue of the return journey!
The exclusive Gala Dinner at the Hotel was an event within the event, for the sumptuousness of the setting, the charisma of the guests - important businessmen and influential personalities - the elegance of the ladies and, also, the presence of the Honourable Isabella Tovaglieri, deserving of having always defended the survival of historic motoring with the institutions.
GLAMOUR SPORT CULTURE
The OldCar24 organisation proposed to the participants - as in 2023 - an exclusive visit to one of the jewels of the city: the Casa Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, a treasure trove of rare objects, furnishings, ancient paintings, and armour, which foreigners, and also many Italians, did not yet know about.
This link between sport and art wants to be a strong point of the MilanoPortofino programme also in the future.
Our guests particularly appreciated the constant assistance of the Carabinieri, who, with motorbikes and cars, escorted the historic cars along the route from Milan to Portofino, with an operation that was fundamental for the successful passage on busy roads.
Security patrols also provided the comfort of security for the crews.
OldCar24 intends to be particularly attentive to the logistical organisation and protection of the participants throughout the event.
COMPETITIVENESS AND BEAUTY
The MILANOPORTOFINO is also an opportunity to discover unusual parts of our landscape.
We want it to be an exciting and enthralling adventure, as well as a sporting one.
The first time trials took place in the grandiose park of an ancient castle, a 17th-century residence in the Tortona hills.
The green hills and the pleasant air of unpolluted places certainly made the transition from the countryside to the marina a pleasant one.
The 30 cars happily arrived - always escorted by the Carabinieri - at the Marina di Chiavari.
Here, the mayor and local authorities attended the time trials, which made the race even more exciting.
The welcome in the Ligurian town was above all expectations, as some participants declared, even better than in other places traditionally used for amateur car races.
A comfortable stop was the one at the historic Gran Caffè Defilla in Chiavari, amidst memories of illustrious personalities of the past, with an aperitif and the house delicacies.
PORTOFINO
After resting in the luxurious 5-star Portofino Coast Hotel, the participants parked their 30 cars in the legendary Piazzetta, which was packed with people, where the ‘star-studded historic cars’ were admired by onlookers of all ages.
The gleaming surfaces, the cold, shiny steels, the colours of the bodywork, the details and insignia - now unrepeatable - of each car, the metal that has taken shape under the skilful hands of the sheet-metal workers, the pulsing and unmistakable voice of each engine, give these cars an almost magical character, hence their fascination.
The MilanoPortofino 2024 ended in a splendid location: the multi-starred Ristorante Cracco.
Preceded by an aperitif on the terrace overlooking the Porticciolo and the Gulf of Tigullio, the lunch.
The great chef's sophisticated and richly flavoured cuisine made it an exhilarating experience of taste and luxury.
Even the greeting to the diners that Carlo Cracco gave was a gesture of delicacy and style much appreciated by all the guests.
AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO INTERESTED PARTIES
The 70 Friends who took part in the MilanoPortofino 2024 christened the newly founded SCUDERIA MONTENAPOLEONE .
Supported by OldCar24, this Association wants to promote high-level sporting and cultural events, to be shared with Italian and foreign fans of historic motoring.
