THE CENTENARY SAILING TOUR
Three thousand two hundred miles travelled in 6 months, 18 stages with events and regattas in four countries, and more than 150 passionate sailing friends who took turns on board the 15-meter Yawl of the Florentine Roberto Olivieri thus celebrated 100 years since its launch. "With Barbara, it was love at first sight; it immediately became the perfect location to share moments of joy on holiday and in regattas with family and friends", commented the owner, Roberto Olivieri. Built in Gosport with teak and pitch-pine planking on a white oak frame designed by Charles Ernest Nicholson, one of the most excellent naval designers in history, Barbara is one of the first examples of easy sailing, with a Bermudan rig with triangular sails and two masts, which allows navigation with a reduced crew.

HISTORY
Commissioned by Herbert Hines, after the first years in England with the London sailor Harold Francis Edwards, at the end of the twenties it was in northern France with the new owner, Baron Amaury de la Grange, senator and influential aviator to whom we owe the birth of the 'French Aeronautical Institute (IAAG) and subsequently on the French Riviera with Commander Jean de Vogue, from the family that owns Moët & Chandon, who created the Dom Pérignon brand in those years. Moored between Cannes and Monaco for several decades, Barbara thus hosted the international jet set for memorable sailings and parties in the name of glamour. In 1982, it was the support boat for the windsurfing crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in 24 days, which entered the Guinness Book of Records. Abandoned at the end of the century in Spain, it was transferred to the Francesco del Carlo Naval Shipyard in Viareggio, where it was brought back to its former glory with a long restoration based on the original drawings from 1923 found at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, led by a team of expert professionals and with the precious support of the Vele Storiche Viareggio association, of which he is now a standard-bearer. Since arriving in Italy, Barbara's command has been entrusted to the Florentine skipper Vincenzo Zaccagni.

A SEASON OF SUCCESS

In every stage, Barbara has always been the subject of appreciation and recognition, including first place in the itinerant regatta on the Island of Capraia, the Tirrenia II Trophy for the most attractive offshore navigation, the AIVE Tirreno Cup and the Special Prize AIVE for the adventurous season, the exhibition at the Cantiere della Memoria, the Roberta Talamoni Memorial Cup for the female crew and celebrations with the Bersaglieri fanfare together with all the citizens at Grazie. At the Monaco Classic Week culinary competition, the silver medal was won for the lobster and turbot dish prepared by Giuliano Tommasini, chef of the Cadò restaurant in Cosio d'Arroscia, Imperia. Of Tuscan origin, Tommasini was also part of the crew in Imperia, cooking traditional dishes from the Ligurian hinterland, such as turtle, a typical stuffed pasta. Homage to the centenary also from the Maison DAPHNÉ Sanremo with a scarf, a unique example, which immortalises it on sustainable silk.

THE TIMELESS ELEGANCE OF A LADY OF THE SEA
At the Voiles de Saint Tropez, Barbara had the honour of participating with 22 other boats in the twelfth edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy, a regatta reserved exclusively for centenary yachts. Chosen by influential stylists for fabulous photo sets and the September cover article of the prestigious Classic Boat magazine, after Naples and Imperia, the Viareggio gathering also awarded her the Prize for Elegance, with the unmistakable crew in the stylish uniform with knitted white and blue stripes, long trousers and boater. On the occasion of the Viareggio regattas, Barbara had a double birthday with her sailor friend Marco Damonte Prioli, general director of the San Martino Polyclinic Hospital in Genoa, a cutting-edge centre with a century of glorious history behind it.

ENGLISH LUXURY AND ITALIAN STYLE: FROM GOSPORT TO THE ENGLISH PEARL OF PONENTE LIGURIA
Historically a holiday resort for English aristocrats and artists and home to the centenary Hanbury Tennis Club, inaugurated in 1923 by the great tennis player Henry Lacoste, on 22 September, Alassio hosted an unforgettable ceremony for Barbara's 100th birthday at the port Luca Ferrari, presided over by Rinaldo Agostini and directed by Marino Agnese. Also at the celebrations is Pilgrim, a 14-metre wooden Laurent Giles from 1971, historic standard-bearer of the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia of Naples, today sailed by the very young owner Emmanuele Dalla Vecchia, son of the legendary Pippo, for decades president of one of the most prestigious clubs and fascinating of the Mediterranean. "Welcoming boats of such great prestige was an honour for Alassio and its Marina", commented Mayor Marco Melgrati, wishing his city a bright future in this sporting sector.
