On Saturday 10 June, the twelfth edition of Villa d'Este Style One Lake One Car was held in the evocative setting of Villa d'Este. This exclusive event was created to celebrate the legendary Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Villa d'Este, a unique and special car that bears its own name after the first example triumphed at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in 1949.
A rendezvous celebrating the Alfa Romeo myth was organised for the occasion, thanks to the collaboration with the Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo (RIAR) and the Registro Internazionale Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 -2300: 17 models were present - illustrating the various versions and bodies of the 6C 2500 - including five legendary examples of the 6C 2500 SS Villa d'Este, one of which is part of the hotel's private collection. Among the most significant cars present were three 6C 2300 models, forerunners of the 2500, including a dark burgundy racing car that participated in the Mille Miglia before the war. This series of models, created by Vittorio Jano, one of the greatest automobile technicians not only from Italy but from around the world, enabled Alfa Romeo to achieve incredible success, sealing its sporting DNA.
Saturday's programme was punctuated by various moments: it began with the arrival of the cars, which were then positioned on the terrace overlooking the lake, continued with a guided tour of the garden and some particularly significant rooms in the hotel, and concluded with a talk by Marco Makaus, Project Manager of the Villa d'Este Style initiatives, entitled 'Grand Prix Alfa Romeo engines in the epic of the Italian gentlemen at the turn of the war'.
On Friday, 9 June, a prologue to the event was held: the cars explored the roads of Lake Como - on which they were tested by the Portello test drivers in their day - and some of the shipyards that have made motoring history, such as Cantieri Glisenti in Dongo and Cantieri Abbate in Tremezzo, underlining the special link between the nautical and automotive worlds.
