Livorno Naval Academy, the first stage of the vintage sails circuit kicks off
Registration for the 'Regatta of Vintage Sails' continues
Registrations continue for the "Regata delle Vele d'Epoca", the first event of the 2023 circuit dedicated to vintage sails which, after a series of events planned in the following months, will conclude in October in Versilia at the XVIII Raduno Vele Storiche Viareggio. The yachts that take part in the largest number of events will be able to accumulate scores valid for the awarding of the 'AIVE del Tirreno Cup'. The "Regata delle Vele d'Epoca", scheduled from 30 April to 1 May 2023, will see the concentration of the fleet at the Marina Cala de' Medici in Rosignano Marittimo starting on Saturday 29 April and will represent the last event of the Settimana Velica Internazionale Accademia Navale Città di Livorno (www.settimanavelicainternazionale.it). The organisation is entrusted to the Accademia Navale della Marina Militare di Livorno, the Lega Navale Italiana sez. di Livorno, the Yacht Club Cala de' Medici, AIVE (Associazione Italiana Vele d'Epoca) and VSV (Vele Storiche Viareggio). Part of the entry fee will be donated to Fondazione Rava pro earthquake Turkey and Syria.
To take part in the "Regata delle Vele d'Epoca" it is sufficient to read the Notice of Race at the link https://www.settimanavelicainternazionale.it/regate/vele-depoca-2/ and formalise the registration, by 28 April 2023, exclusively by e-mail to the following addresses: lnilivorno@gmail.com or info@marinacalademedici.it or g.fernandes@velestoricheviareggio.org . Participating boats will be accommodated at the Marina Cala de' Medici from Saturday 22 April until Tuesday 2 May. Among this year's novelties, in addition to the already well-known categories Yacht Epoca (launched up to 1950), Classici (launched up to 1976), Spirit of Tradition and Vele Storiche, is the introduction of the grouping called 'Classic IOR', i.e. yachts built in metal or wood or composite material not as standard launched between 1 January 1970 and 31 December 1984, which still conform to their original designs and can prove to have had a valid IOR certificate in that period. Among the boats entered in the 'Vintage' category is the 1946 Ilda by Vele Storiche Viareggio President Gianni Fernandes, among the 'Classic' ones the 1973 One Tonner Ojalà II, celebrating half a century since its launch, and the 5.50 S.I. (International Tonnage) Twins X from 1960.
