Villa d'Este Style events get into full swing: after Vintage Yachting, the twelfth edition of One Lake One Car will be held on 10 June
Villa d'Este celebrates the legendary Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Villa d'Este, a unique and special car that bears its very name
Next 10 June will see the twelfth edition of One Lake One Car, an exclusive journey to discover the Alfa Romeo legend: a few examples of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS model, of the twenty still in existence, will be the undisputed protagonists of the day, together with a careful selection of cars that will illustrate the various versions and bodies of the 6C 2500.
This model was the last one built by Alfa Romeo as a coachbuilt car, which was then bodied by specialists in the sector, such as Carrozzeria Touring, Pinin Farina, and many others. It was also the last of the prodigious 6C series (which stands for six cylinders), which began with the 1500 in the 1920s and was later developed with 1750, 1900, 2300 and finally 2500 displacements. This series of models, created by Vittorio Jano, one of the greatest automotive engineers not only in Italy but worldwide, enabled Alfa Romeo to achieve incredible success, sealing its sporting DNA.
The 6C 2500, and in particular its highest-performance version, the Super Sport, represented the end of an era in which the Visconti Biscione company occupied a position of world leadership in sports and luxury cars. With the next model, the 1900, a new industrial phase would begin, based on series production, which led to a new positioning and new great successes.
The legendary coupé, purchased in 2011 by Villa d'Este and now part of the hotel's private collection, will be the star.
Part of a small group of 32 examples built between 1949 and 1952, this coupé built by Touring bears the name 'Villa d'Este' by virtue of the fact that the first example triumphed at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este in 1949.
On Friday 9 June, a prologue to the event will be held, thanks to the collaboration of the REGISTRO ITALIANO ALFA ROMEO (RIAR) and the REGISTRO INTERNAZIONALE ALFA ROMEO 6C 2500 -2300.
Approximately twenty 6C 2500s will explore the roads of Lake Como - on which they were tested by the Portello test drivers in their day - and some of the shipyards that have made motorsport history.
