4 AND 5 JUNE 2022: THE CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE MARINA DI VARAZZE CLASSIC CARS RETURNS
In Marina di Varazze, classic cars are back in the limelight in the first major event of the new season.
The event, now in its fourth edition, is listed as a national event in the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) calendar and will take place on 4 and 5 June 2022.
For fans of cars of yesteryear, the ideal season is approaching for "whizzing around" in the cars of the past and reigniting their engines to take part in rallies and parades. The first weekend of June will see the fourth official edition of Marina di Varazze Classic Cars, organised by Marina di Varazze in collaboration with the Club Ruote d'Epoca Riviera dei Fiori di Albenga (SV).
Over the course of the three editions, the formula of this event has proven to be a winning one, especially for the pleasant and rare combination with the world of yachting. If the competition has reached the very important level it has today, great credit must go to Ingegner Fioravanti, the historic designer of Ferrari and Pininfarina, to whom our heartfelt thanks go for his support over the years.
As of this year, the competition takes place as part of the events on the Automotoclub Storico Italiano calendar, so the jury will consist of a panel of three jurors assigned directly by ASI and certified for this type of event. Our thanks go to the ASI for including us in the prestigious circuit of the Concours d'Elegance.
The agile and informal style characterises the concours, which remains unchanged from past editions, and this is possible thanks to an organisational commitment that is anything but restrained, indispensable so that the event can take place in complete safety and in full compliance with the Covid-19 regulations. There is no shortage of constant fine-tuning from year to year, which garners regular praise from participants.
With regard to past editions, Marina di Varazze Classic Cars was, in fact, awarded a special commendation in 2019 by the ASI on the occasion of Auto Classica, placing it among the best rally events of the year.
For the organisers, the aim is always to make the event, and the historical heritage of classic cars, known to an increasing number of enthusiasts. This year's edition expands the entry categories with the inclusion of the 'Youngtimer' section to allow greater involvement also among young people.
THE PROGRAMME
Arrival at Marina di Varazze is scheduled for early afternoon on Saturday 4 June, with the jury's evaluation activities starting. An evocative boat excursion is planned for competition participants in the late afternoon.
The highlight of the competition is Sunday 5, beginning with the presentation of the cars on the catwalk at the quayside and the departure of the cars in a parade through the town of Varazze to the neighbouring town of Cogoleto along the splendid Lungomare Europa, usually closed to traffic and open for the occasion.
During lunch, the prize-giving ceremony will take place, thus guaranteeing a convenient return to the participants within the permitted times.
As regards the prize-giving categories, in addition to the 'Best in Show', prizes will be awarded for the best cars belonging to the following periods: Pre-war, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and Youngtimers. Finally, the 'Special Audience Award' will be presented on Sunday, but voting will take place on Saturday afternoon and will therefore only cover cars that arrived on Saturday. There will also be a special prize 'for the youngest couple'.
