The Lurani Nibbio wins la Coppa d'Oro at Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este at Cernobbio

1935 Nibbio received la Coppa d'Oro Villa d'Este, the first of the acknowledgments of traditional competition of elegance that was held on the shores of lake Como on the weekend. Gold cup winner car was a custom-built car constructed by Earl Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi, one of the main characters of the automotive history who in the past has participated in about 160 races including nine Mille Miglia where he got 3 wins in his category.
The car, built in the '30s with a purpose of beating the speed record, is single-seater , with a tubular frame , clothed in very light aluminum bodywork, constructed at the time by Riva di Merate and equipped with single-cylinder supercharged motor 250 cc, Guzzi. It was first taken to race by Federico Gottsche Berbert who received the car as a gift from his grandfather, Earl Lurani . At the prize-giving ceremony in the spectacular setting of Villa d'Este was also present the mother, Francesca Lurani ,guardian of her father's car heritage.
The Earl Lurani was a gentleman driver, promoter of Gran Turismo sport category with the sports journalist Giovanni Canestrini that was one of the most active first enthusiasts of the vintage cars in Italy in the 30's. He was a collector of the classic cars and creator of an important archive of documentation regarding the history of the cars.
Besides the winner of the Competition of Elegance Villa d'Este, in Cernobbio were present 53 automobiles of extraordinary historical value, starting from 1920 Ballot 3/8 LC to 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8. During the exhibition of 50 years of automotive history , the Competition presented the series of automobiles that are extremely significant thanks to their design, mechanics, the sporting past and their illustrious owners. There were also cars like Duesenberg owned by Tyrone Power; Rolls Royce Phantom I of 1926, that was the most expensive car that year; Abarth 1000 Bialbero Record of 1960; Aston Martin DB4 GTZ Coupé Zagato of 1960 (only 19 examples were built and an estimated value of more than 14 million dollars according to the last auction).
Since the morning the jury of the competition, chaired by Lorenzo Ramaciotti, (designer, for years responsible for the style of Gruppo FCA) has strictly scrutinized the cars considering their conditions, originality, state of conservation and quality of restoration work.
Among the members of the Jury there was Derek John Hill (son of Phil Hill, world champion of F1 of 1961 with Ferrari) ; Yasmin Le Bon (ex model, the wife of Simon Le Bon, leader of Duran Duran) and Guy Ruper Berryman (bass player of Coldplay and the great lover of classic cars).
This year only two cars participated in the category of the Concept Car: the Renault Trezor, an electric concept car, present at Paris Motor Show 2016 and the GFG Style Techrules Ren, unveiled at Geneva Motor Show of last March and designed by Giugiaro The GFG Style Techrules Ren is powered by a turbine generation of TREV and provides 1.305 hp. Besides those cars there is the BMW Serie 8 Concept that is out of the competition, but it anticipates the return in the list of an important model of BMW.
