MAUTO - MUSEO DELL'AUTOMOBILE DI TORINO "Giovanni Agnelli".
Visiting this prestigious museum is like entering the history of the automobile from its beginnings to the present day, and following the evolution of its various creative phases.
An evocative and enthralling exhibition layout takes visitors on a close look at the most important cars produced in more than a century, to get to know the most prestigious Italian and foreign brands and the most authoritative names of engineers, coachbuilders and industrial designers in the sector.
The museum houses and exhibits 200 perfectly restored examples from the pioneering period of the car: carriages with steam engines, which replaced horses; models from the various experimental and creative phases; the newborn short-lived cars of the late 19th century.
The first very expensive luxury cars are on display, from the regal Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (1907) to the Isotta Fraschini (1908).
There is the legendary monumental Itala, winner of the Peking to Paris raid in 1907!
And so on to other motoring masterpieces from the 1930s, 1950s, 1960s and the 20th century.
The best Italian coachbuilders are represented: Vignale, Ghia, Pinin Farina, Bertone and Zagato.
In addition to the splendid custom-built cars designed by the most brilliant stylists, there are also popular post-war cars, the super-utility cars that changed the way Italians travelled.
One of the most spectacular exhibits at Mauto is the series of racing and F1 cars lined up in a gallery simulating a racetrack; the cars appear to be racing alongside the evocative chronophotographs by E.Muybridge (The Horse in motion, 1877).
For connoisseurs, a large department displays the most varied types of engines and all the components of a car with their variants over a hundred years of design.
