The Porsche 911 is a sports car produced by the Stuttgart-based manufacturer since 1963. It is one of the most successful cars and has undergone many improvements over the years. 1966 Weber carburettors were installed in all models. The wheels can be recognised by their Fuchs alloy rims.
Also in 1966, the standard and S coupes were joined by TARGA versions with a removable hardtop, which became very popular in the 1970s. The Porsche 911 was the first open-top car to adopt the 'Targa' designation and was presented at the 1965 Internationale - Automobil- Austellung in Frankfurt.
The name Targa was created to honour the 550 Spyder with which Umberto Maglioli won the Targa Florio in 1956, PORSCHE's first overall victory in an international race for the World Sports Car Championship! For these merits, from the 1970s onwards, the term Targa was commonly used to define this type of bodywork. Last but not least, the participation of the 911 S in the famous 1971 film The 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the first scenes of which Steve McQeen drives a 911 S, a car that the famous actor owned.

The Porsche 911 S Targa in question is from 1972, the year in which the version with the external oil filler cap was introduced. It was purchased two years ago completely disassembled and catalogued accurately, so reassembly was very easy. The body was complete in every part. The bodywork was a light blue colour, with black interior, which does not conform to its current orange livery.
It was water-painted to avoid the more invasive sandblasting which is the practice for every car. The few front panels were replaced and then the car was prepared for painting.
Next, the engine components, gearbox, engine, were overhauled and every part of the suspension was powder-coated. The instruments were overhauled, leaving the vehicle's mileage unchanged.
The electrical system and the braking system are completely new. The historic Fuchs wheels have been revised, as has the oil cooler. The tyres and oil pipes are new.
Once the car was reassembled, the upholstery department breathed new life into the interior, with the original colours of the seats and carpets.
