Alfa Romeo Giulia was produced by Alfa Romeo from 1962 to 1977. In 15 years, about 1 million units have been produced, making the Giulia one of the best- selling cars in the history of Alfa Romeo; of these 572,646 were made in the saloon version three volumes.

Born in the early sixties with the task of replacing the Giulietta, it took over the basic mechanical scheme. The engine was a four-cylinder aeronautical school, with twinshaft distribution and entirely aluminum construction. Compared to that of its ancestor, there was, in addition to the increase in displacement from 1290 to 1570 cm3, the important innovation of the sodium-cooled drain valves. The front suspension had a particularly sporty layout with overlapping quadrilaterals, while the rear axle used the traditional rigid bridge made more effective by moving the spring and shock absorber attachments from the axle shafts to the longitudinal arms, keeping the aluminum differential box and facilitating the design of the arm upper side shake control.

The transmission was five speed manual, while the brakes were drum, with the front ones with 3 jaws and finned aluminum drums, later replaced by a 4-disc Dunlop system (Ate DAL 1967). In 1970 other mechanical changes, the most substantial are the pedal now hinged above and the handbrake, whose lever is suspended from under the dashboard, next to the steering column, to the more conventional lever on the central tunnel in the middle of the front seats.

The mechanics were as avantgarde as the bodywork,in fact the shell with differentiated deformation with rigid living cell and the bodywork line were very modern. Thanks to the truncated tail, the lateral grooves at the base of the belt line and the low and receding muzzle, the giulia had a reduced aerodynamic penetration coefficient (CX) for the time and category (0.34) thanks to the use in the wind tunnel design.

The slogan “Giulia, the car designed by the wind, was famous. the design gave the model a touch of remarkable aggressivenness. The result of so much technology was performance at the top of the category :a road test conducted by the famous specialized magazine Quattroruote in 1965 compared it with 12 other competitors of the same class, resulting the fastest with 175 km/h, with the others models that oscillated between 132 kmh hei 165km/h. the car was to be presented concurrently with the inauguration of the new Arese plant, but due to the constant delays in delivering it,the first specimens of Giulia, which were assembled in 1062, were made entirely at the historic Milanese plant at the Portello.
