FERARRI 166 INTER: AN EXPLOSION OF ENERGY

After the Second World War and the crisis of every industrial sector with the destruction of the factories, the red Ferrari and the new car models mark a watershed between the first and the next.
1948 - The Turin Motor Show opens with the novelties of Lancia, Ardea, Maserati, Fiat 500 Giardinetta and FERRARI 166 MM, first of the post- war house in Maranello. The Ferrari 166 Inter Touring coupè is derived from the winning racing models.166F2-166S-166Mm ( Mille Miglia ), Targa Florio,24 Hours of Le Mans). Project by Gioacchino Colombo ,who prepared the V12 engine for the Ferrari team.

The model shown here came out of the Milanese Touring body shop (1928), which became famous for having conceived the construction technique. With this new structure of hand- beaten aluminnum panels, Touring created the first and most important Ferrari, including the 166 MM in the coupè, spider and Barchetta versions, which had  international success.

The Superleggera weighed only about 800 kg. Most of the Inter, of which 37 specimens were produced, were coach - builders, the excellence of the genre at that time; as well as Touring, Ghia , Vignale, Farina. A unique specimen for Enzo Ferrari was made by Bertone.

These true sheet metal artists played a very important role in creating the Ferrari style and in bringing Maranello's" reds" to success, no less than the famous drivers who led them to countless victories.
