FIAT 600 MULTIPLA 1956-1967: WHEN TAXIS WERE GREEN (AND BLACK)
Amarcord-nostalgia of the Sixties.
Someone will remember the comfortable 4 or 6 seat MPV, presented in 1956 at the Brussels Motor Show by the Turin-based company. It is a multi-place that could be used to bring the family to the seaside, or for a cheerful picnic in the countryside, because there was also space for luggage. Amarcord for those who were young in those years: the persuasive voice of Fred Bongusto encouraged a "slow dance" on summer evenings, not yet torrid, and yuoi jumped in pairs on a green / black taxi to reach the so called "Rotonda sul mare". The 600 Multipla was a success in all it's versions, an icon of that decade in which the middle class reached a certain well-being and the car was no longer just a mirage.
The taxi version was the most appreciated; it was in the ordinance colors of that time, green, black and there were also two thin red and white stripes that separated them. The Milanese of that generation still remember that unmistakable livery. The Multipla appeared in some movies, among the best "La bugiarda" (1965) by L.Comencini with a delightful and very young Catherine Spaak, and Enrico Maria Salerno. The movie "La cotta" (1967) by Ermanno Olmi, shot in Milan during the "economic miralce" and at the same time, during the workers' protest and, a little later, also the student’s one. In 1999, our 4-wheel protagonist participates in the movie "Cielo in una stanza" by Carlo Vanzina, with Elio Germano.
