ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPRINT GTA: A MASTERPIECE OF STYLE AND TECHNIQUE
The names of women, with which a lot of high-end cars are named, evoke images of charm; but behind these cars there is the high technology that makes them masterpieces of mechanics, for high sports performance.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA car (Gran Turismo Alleggerita), like the sisters of the series, was born in 1963, from the Giulia GT car and from the design of a very young Giorgetto Giugiaro, in the Bertoni team. The need to lighten the weight of the vehicle, to adapt it to the homologation parameters for the competition models, required the intervention of the engineer Carlo Chiti, already operating at Ferrari and at that time general manager of Autodelta, research and prototypes department. The transformation of the Giulia GT into the GTA model was achieved with the construction of the bodywork in Peraluman 25, which reduced by about 200 kg. the weight of the car. This aluminum alloy, of which the main element is magnesium, guarantees resistance and anti-corrosiveness to the material. It also has characteristics of weldability and ductility. The engineer Chiti also modified the interior to adapt the car to the requirements of the rules for touring cars. The Giulia Sprint GTA car, produced in only 500 specimens, was presented at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1965. It immediately took part in the Trento / Bondone uphill speed race, conquering the category win; in 1966, 1967 and 1968 it received the European title.
The GTA car defeated the competition by collecting a lot of victories in many competitions, this is the reason why the rivals defined it "car to beat". The specimen of our service is a GTA car in race configuration, it was transformed in the 90s by "Chiapparini" and later by the Alfa Delta; it took part in many historic car competitions and "Alfa Revival Cup" races, a championship dedicated exclusively to historic Alfa Romeo racing cars. The engine boasts a very high level of preparation, capable of exceeding 8,000 rpm and developing around 160 hp. The impeccable conditions of the bodywork testify to the attention and care with which it has been preserved. The car is equipped with a license plate, booklet and a technical-sports passport that is valid for registering for speed races. Finally it was used published in many sector magazines; today it is offered on the market by the dealer Ruote da Sogno:
