MG P TYPE-HIGH AGE, CLASS AND STYLE
Morris Garages, English car manufacturer, was the subsidiary of the Morris dealership in Oxford, owned by William Morris.
In 1922 Morris Garage he began to build spyder cars on modified Morris chassis. The P-type model, PA was produced from 1934 to 1936 in 2000 copies. In 1935 MG Cars was absorbed by Morris. The 30s and 40s were those of the most successful of these sports cars, of light and elegant bodywork, but powerful enough to compete in the most demanding races, including the 24 Hours of the LeMans of 1935: a consecration. The MG PA was produced from 1934 to 1935 and had installed an engine of 847 cm3 of displacement similar to the one mounted on the J-type, but the one installed on the PA had three bench supports,a larger crankshaft, and a double body carburetor. It produces 36 HP of power at 5.500 rpm, while the MG PB, an evolution of the PA, was equipped with a 939 cm3 engine thanks to a modification made to the previous engine which allowed it to reach 43 cv, a highly respected power considering the age and the weight of the car, so much so that the MG PB had the privilege of participating to multiple races including the 1000 MIGLIA.
THE MG PA CHASSIS 0827
The rare car we are presenting this week was exhibited at the Quattroruote Museum for many years and was later sold to a great expert, Emilio Bettiol, who carried out a complete restoration to bring it back to its former glory. This specimen was built on 26 April 1934 and sold on 5 May 1934 to Miss G Gasser of Portsmouth, Hampshire; the important element that differentiates it from the other MG PA is the mechanical part as it is equipped with a larger BRC engine, FORD E 93, patent, a side valve engine with AQUAPLANE HEAD and CARBURETORS, generous engine, elastic and powerful, it was mounted on cars English sports boat. Our MG PA seen the equipment and motorization, probably will have had a historical past. Today the specimen is presented with an elegant livery, black color, in Sport setup with two aeroscreens but Emilio Bettiol, attentive to the originality and completeness of the car, kept the windshield and the capote. The cockpit, totally uncovered , is very confortable with the two seats in two-tone yellow and purple leather, in a racing style.
