THE WARRIOR RECALL - WATCHES OF MILITARY VALUE
There is something ancestral and boldly masculine in wearing a uniform, a military object. The antiquarian market of historical relics and ancient weapons is indeed very flourishing.
Napoleon Bonaparte's sword was sold at an auction for € 4.8 million! If the saber and the Arab dagger of the legendary Lawrence of Arabia were available, who knows what amount they would reach. It is irrefutable that the objects and devices belonged to the Armed Forces, to special bodies, to the navy or to the aeronautics, have a great attraction, with or without a heroic imagination. Military watches don’t escape this fascination, because they are extremely rare, because they were produced in very limited numbers. In Italy, already in 1936, the Panerai Company, then Officine Panerai, had created the RADIOMIR first self-luminous dial watch for divers and in use at the Regia Marina Sommergibili Group. The sailors of the X Mas Flottiglia wore it. They put the British Navy in serious trouble, which used the Rolexes destined for the Ministry of Defense, today very rare and highly sought after. After the war Panerai replaced the radium for luminescence with a less dangerous mixture for the health of the military divers. Both Radiomir and Luminor watches had the movements of the Rolex or Jaeger LeCoultre. At the Christie's auction in Geneve a military LUMINOR watch with refer.6152-1 has been awarded for the value corresponding to more than € 200,000.
