Thanks to D'Annunzio the car has become a female. The Bugatti Type 40 roadster is a masterpiece of the 30s of the 20th century: the futuristic myth of speed and machine was/has consolidated. After the Great War, the world changed and industrial production began at full blast. The Déco style has supplanted the Art Nouveau, pressed by avant-garde artistic movements, by the new life needs of the society, especially the "high" one, which has the desire for luxury, practicality and new forms. The cars, not yet in series, are built with a sophisticated mechanics and bodywork, of hand(i)craft care. The attractive sporty BUGATTI TYPE 40 fits well with the stylized but sensual in bright colors and plastic shapes women paintings of Tamara de Lempicka , or with the steel and leather tube seats by Marcel Breuer. Paris fashion presents a profound change, due to the simplifications of the clothes of Paul Poiret, of Coco Chanel, who designs toilettes for young sporty women, and of the futuristic Sonia Delaunay. Even the men's fashion of these years becomes uninhibited, with soft and informal forms, which we now call casual. The car industry with its steel tubes, nickel-plated or chrome-plated finishes, and the furnishings of the shiny leather interiors, has certainly contributed to the change in taste also in terms of furnishings and luxury home decor. Not to mention Haute Horlogerie and Déco-style jewelry (Cartier).
