RÉTROMOBILE SALON OF PARIS 2019
Paris, luxury cars and voluptuousness! Freely paraphrasing Baudelaire!
Alongside this timeless myth, despite the times, there is the Salon Rétromobile de Paris 2019, which is an exhibition, a fair and an auction of high prestigious, rarity, beauty, classic and legendary cars. One of them, the ALFA ROMEO 8C 2900B berlinetta (lotto 20), which was offered at auction by Artcurial (international auction house, leader in the Motorcars specialty with exceptional sales), surpassed all the other quotations, reaching € 16,745,600, including the Commission. To understand such a high investment of money, you have to look at it in its overall configuration and in its details: it has a long profile due to a hood that hides an 8-cylinder engine, which was very powerful for the time, 1938/39. A continuous line crosses the sides, marking the continuity of the entire volume, with a graphic effect that is as simple as elegant; important front fenders that give "grit" to the front of the car. The excellent conservation of the bodywork of elegant shades, make us think of the passionate care of the former owner. The paternity of the car, the Casa del Biscione Milanese, is of undisputed prestige like that of the Touring Superleggera bodyshop in Milan. This car, at the top of the ranking, is the 2nd of 5 with the same characteristics in the road version, on 32 pre-war specimens produced. We point out that it was also awarded a Serenissima Spyder of 1966 (lotto 85) to the figure of € 4,218,800 by an American collector. During the sales of the three days at Rétromobile, Artcurial Motorcars has grossed over 42 million euros with an increase of 31% compared to the previous year's auction, this testifies once again that the historical motorism is growing and above all, the specimens produced in limited editions, including the custom-built cars, are the most sought after and the historical value continues to appeal to collectors all over the world.
