Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1962-65

Giulietta Spider's evolution to Giulia Spider able to reach a speed of 180 km/h.
The Giulia Spider serie 101.23 went on public display in June 1962 and remained in production until 1965. At that time already 8.850 examples of normal version Giulia Spider had been produced, 1091 "veloce" and other 400 right-hand drive version designed specifically for the English market.
There were very little esthetic changes on Giulia Spider, but undeniably it was recognizable for its bonnet intake that was giving ample space for the new engine and that was similar to the 2600 Spider one, presented in the same period.
At the rear of the car the only distinctive feature compared with Giulietta was the introduction of the inscription "1600". From a mechanic point of view the car was significantly improved since it allowed the little Spider to reach the speed of 172 km/h that at that period of time was unbelievable considering the 1570 cc engine. There were other changes made: the 4-speed manual gearbox was developed to a 5-speed one and moreover the braking system was improved by the introduction of front brake discs.
The "Veloce" version with its 112 hp at 6500 rpm is capable of touching 180 km/h. It has been presented in 1964. Its list price was at the time 1.992.000 lire, while normal Spider's one was 1.885.000 lire.
