Mercedes 280 SL
A new Mercedes roadster, descendant of the version of 300 sl and of the famous 1950 190 sl was first exhibited at the Salone di Ginevra in March 1963.
This car was designed with a distinctive, patente, slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the "Pagoda" nickname.
First Pagoda engine was a 2300 cc, then it was at first increased to a 2500 cc one, the 250 SL in 1966, and later to the 280 SL with 170 hp that guaranteed a very remarkable acceleration. Moreover there was a very significant evolution in terms of security, thanks to Béla Barényi, an Austro-Hungarian engineer, who chose steel body construction with stiffen flatbed.
As confirmed by production data, the car was a great success. It was produced for 8 years till 1971 for a total of 48.912 examples, except 250 sl California, authorized to carry 4 people, that had a removable hardtop and no soft-top, and was produced in little numbers.
Nowadays the model of W133 is a classic. It is appreciated because of its astonishing figure and a lot of collectors from all over the world pursue the examples that are nearer to their original condition.
Have a pleasant trip with the wind playing with your hair on Pagoda, synonym of Mercedes' beauty in the period between the Sixties and Seventies.
