How watches become a legend and are worth millions to large auctions
High watchmaking has an intrinsic prestige for its mechanical perfection and its aesthetic, but it becomes legendary when it gets in touch with particularly important and well-known characters, which determine its added value.
High watchmaking has an intrinsic prestige for its mechanical perfection and its aesthetic, but it becomes legendary when it gets in touch with particularly important and well-known characters, which determine its added value. It is a value that grows with the rarity of the object and with the passage of time.
So it was for the most legendary wristwatch of all time, the ROLEX DAYTONA PAUL NEWMAN, which the very popular actor wore in the movie "Indianapolis Infernal Track" of 1969, filmed on the Daytona circuit. Race and interpretation thrilled the actor to motor racing so much that he became a non-professional driver. Since then, this classic watch, irreplaceable in the resistance races for its high performance, has become a status symbol, the most desired object by sporty men and collectors. On 26th October 2017, at the auction house PHILLIPS and Associates Bacs & Russo, the original watch reached the formidable amount of 17.752.500 US dollars.
Spontaneously this success reverberated on the following series of the Daytona Paul Newman that were put into production. The watches of great quality live an extraordinary season, like the JAEGER-LECOULTRE, a combination of style, perfect mechanism and brilliant practicality. In fact, the "REVERSO" is the refined watch on the wrists of sportsmen. It has been created for polo players, because its case overturnes ( literally the Latin word "reverso" means "overturned" ) and so it protects the sapphire crystal of the dial. Also the PATEK PHILIPPE NAUTILUS and CALATRAVA have reached in the last auctions considerable awards at ITINERIS and the Texan HERITAGE AUCTIONS.
