An evocative brand: Tudor watches

The name “Tudor” refers to the period of the history of England from 1485 to 1603. Henry VIII, Anna Bolena, Elizabeth I and the related gloomy dramas immediately come to mind. Artistically, the architecture is of high expressive value, for example the Hampton Court Palace, with its imposing towers, its characteristic chimneys, the Courtyard of the Clock (a curious astronomical clock above one of the entrances) on the banks of the Thames.
After the War of the Two Roses, the fusion between the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster took place. The Tudor heraldic rose is red with a white heart. What does this have to do with watches? From 1936 we can find the heraldic rose on the dial of the Tudor watches, first it was inside a shield, then, since 1947, without the shield.

THE LINK WITH ROLEX

In 1936 HANS WILSDORF took over the "The Tudor" brand and in 1946 the Montres Tudor S.A. Company was born in Geneva. He is a German watchmaker, who works in London and transferred to Switzerland during the First World War. In 1908 he created the ROLEX brand with Alfred Davis. Tudor wrist watches had to be cheaper, but they had to own all the technical and functional features guaranteed by Rolex. The Tudor Advisor (1957-1968) is very rare, with an alarm function; only a few thousand specimens were produced. The same was for the ultra-thin Tudor with waterproof watch-case (1957-1963), one of the most sought after by collectors.
