Cinema & Motors: PAUL NEWMAN, uncontrollable passion
It is difficult to forget Paul Newman, one of the most attractive american actors who acted in some of the most beautiful movies in the Hollywood history.
As leading actor, he played in an oscar-nominated (1959) film “Cat on a hot tin roof” with Liz Taylor and took part as well in many other successful movies such as “Winning” in 1969.
While starring in “Winning” he discovered his big passion for race cars and began his new career as a gentlemen driver. Paul Newman drove legendary cars like Ferrari, Porsche and Ford. He participated several times in 24 Hours of Daytona winning fifth place driving a Ferrari 365 in 1977.
In 1979 Paul Newman took his talents to the 24 Hours of Le Mans where he scored a second place finish by co-driving with a professional driver.
At the age of eighty he took part in the american classic race in 2005 for the last time.
In 2009 he was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame of Sporting Car Club of America.
